I have a confession.  I like my races to have cute medals.  A lame medal is just plain sad.

By “cute” I naturally mean well designed, meaningful and with graphic appeal.  Right here and now, I would like to initiate a campaign to require all race web sites to post photos of their medals for all the world to see without forcing me to troll through images of the race finish in the hopes of a glimpse.  Don’t be shy.  Be proud.

Disney has a cute medal.  Of course they do.  The well tuned machine of American ingenuity and capitalism knows the importance of good branding.  If I can finish at the Goofy Challenge, I would get three.  Maybe I am preparing for the inevitable but I am not sure I need three medals with Disney characters on them.  One would certainly have been nice but no crying please.

I started cruising for another marathon in mid February as a potential back up plan.  Just in case.  Buzz Marathon in San Miguel has spectacular scenery, an easy going attitude, and in located within reasonable driving distance saving frequent flyer miles for other potentially more romantic things.  But what about the medal?  The medal is fashioned after a dog tag because the course is located on a former army base, Camp Roberts.   I think that passes for official deTourist approved Cute.
