deTourist.org every city tells a story……..

Following the Conversation (1974)

My torn Achilles’ tendon renders stairs a nuisance and the act of running on them the forbidden fruit and the promised land simultaneously.  But that’s not true for you now is it?  Enjoy!

Stairs anyone?

The Conversation (1974) was known as much for the editing techniques of Walter Murch as for the direction of Frances Ford Coppola.  If you are looking for stairs, try following surveillance expert, Harry Caul played by Gene Hackman as he does more than his job description.

Start at Union Square to follow the plot line in sequence (excerpt on YouTube).  Make your way down Market to the Hyatt Regency where you enter the revolving doors and go up the escalator to the main lobby (film location for bits of Towering Inferno and High Anxiety).  Cross through the lobby and exit out the doors to the upper level walkways.  Here you’ll find a series of stairs as you cross each block (there are three up and three down) until you cut through before you get to the cinema.  This is a different view of the city, high enough to view the skyscraper tops eye to eye.

Cross through the plaza to the building with the big x’s (one of the first to use external trusses for seismic cross bracing ) known as One Maritime Plaza (1964).

Stairs, anyone?

If you find my directions confusing, check out the detourist.org facebook fan page for upcoming calendar of events. Look for guided running tour, Follow That Car!! or try following the Every Trail version.  http://t.co/mOFwE4L
